On Monday, February 1, 2016, a team of young men and women representing The Alternative National Congress (ANC) and Alex B. Cummings supporters arrived in Harper City. On Tuesday, both teams visited with me at my private residence on Reevy Street behind the Merry-Go-Round Park at about 4pm.
During the impromptu meeting, The Team Cummings of Liberia (TCL) introduced itself to me. The Alternative National Congress (ANC) of which I am an integral part, presented an integration meeting to take place at the Merry-Go-Round Park on Friday, February 5, 2016. At that very moment, I was appointed as Acting Chairman of ANC Maryland.
On Friday, February 5, TCL, ANC and other citizens including and not limited to tens and tens of the elderly, women, men, handicapped, students, youths &c. converged at the Merry-Go-Round Park. Issues surrounding the possible candidacy of Mr. Alex Cummings were discussed and a way forward for ANC was paramount.
After that impromptu meeting, all proverbial hell began to break loose.
There were accusations moving around Government quarters. Some said that the fact that I met with TCL and became Acting Chair of ANC, placed me in a position “undermining” the Liberian government. They also added, that the fact I worked for the Liberian government and met with TCL, I therefore “badmouthed” H. E. Joseph N. Boakai, vice president of the Republic of Liberia. Even how hard I categorically denied these false and misleading allegations, the Liberian government has being going after me in many ways.
On Monday, February 8, 2016, the current superintendent of Maryland County, Madam Betsy Kuoh-Toe invited me to her office on four separate occasions in one day. Even though her many invitations on that day were unusual and important, I found myself indisposed. So I hoped to meet with her later.
But she couldn't wait. On the third invitation, Madam Kuoh-Toe told her chauffeur to inform me that a parcel had arrived for me from Monrovia. And so, she wanted me to come and pick it up. I sent my personal body guard. He and Madam Kuoh-Toe’s chauffeur return back to me with no parcel. The chauffeur told me again that Madam Kuoh-Toe asked him to inform me that President Sirleaf was on the phone line to speak with me. Right away, I took off to her location at the Administration Building on Gregory Street riding with her chauffeur.
That's when history was in its remaking posture.
When I entered the Administration Building confines, I saw a huge crowd lining up on the balcony. I thought it was a workshop going on. But I was wrong. The group was there to take me on by all means necessary. Don't ask me what i mean. Those leaders of ours that died under simliar circumstances, would have been our living witnesses!
As I walked in Madam Kuoh-Toe’s office, the group drew closer on the balcony. The first thing that came to my mind was that this was the same style used when some of our relatives, friends and former leaders of the County were sandwiched and attacked and beaten to death by mobs on false allegations of ritualistic killings.
Some of those people who were accused were sent to prison; others were sent to the gallows. At that time, I was too young to know the difference. But here I was, faced with similar situation.
When I entered Madam Kuoh-Toe’s office, I met several individuals sitting in there. What were they there for. I notice, they were talking. But as soon as I entered the office, everybody became mute.
That’s when it all began to roll. It seems like beheading was imminent!
The superintendent, Madam Kuoh-Toe, began to attack me with barrage of questions - one-after-another. I couldn’t reply with the same level of speed she was posing the questionss. Evidently, something was seriously wrong. And so, for a minute, I became flabbergasted. When I recovered, I tried to answer some of the questions to the best of my ability. But I had one choice: walk away.
On my way out, Madam Kuoh-Toe asked a question that captured my attention: she said, “What happened between you and your sister?” I asked, which one? Because I have five sisters (siblings). Then she answered, “Mary Broh.” At that point, I knew something different was about to emerge. So I decided to listen to the Mary Broh story. Why? Because, Mary was my boss at GSA where I was serving pro bono.
In a twinkle of an eye, she called Mary Broh on her phone line and gave the phone to me.
My first words to Mary Broh were, “Am I going on a firing squad for which I am surrounded by these many people?” Mary asked why I said so. I explained. Then Mary followed up by saying, “As soon as I got to work today at GSA, somebody said to me that you badmouthed V.P. Boakai and you are supporting Alex Cummings and also a member of ANC political party.”
I answered by saying, “Yes, I am now the Acting Chairman of ANC in Maryland. But no! I have never “badmouthed” V. P. Boakai. I continued; there’s no reason why I should “badmouth” V. P. Boakai. As for the Alex Cummings issue, yes, I met with The Cummings Team. From what I have been told, Alex Cummings might ride the ANC ticket to presidency. So I asked her if anything was wrong with the decisions i have made.
Mary passed the phone over to a young man whom I met once in Monrovia and who was helpful to my Candidacy for senator of Maryland in 2014 by the name of Cole Bangalu. He’s the current deputy director general of GSA for administration.
Mr. Bangalu began to grill me as if I were a witness in the dock in court. He interrogated me for three unbroken minutes. But I held my ground. I told him I am the current Acting Chair of ANC Maryland. I don’t deny that! I also told him that I met with Alex Cummings team visiting Maryland along with two ANC executives. I can’t deny that! But I never “badmouth” V. P. Boakai. I categorically denied that! I told him that it is a boldface lie and an attempt to place the Executive Mansion against me.
I categorically condemn such trend of lies that led to many innocent deaths in Maryland in the past. I concluded by saying those who are involved in these orchestrated lies areI had to indecent opportunists. Mr. Bangalu dropped the line and said, “We’ll get back with you soon.”
The temperature was too high. And so I decided to leave the Superintendent’s office. As I walked out, I heard Madam Betsy Kuoh-Toe say, “You better be careful or you will suffer.” I turned around and asked her, “Are you threatening me, Madam Superintendent?” She said, “Yes, so what? Don’t you know you anger President Sirleaf?” I had no other choice but to walk out of the office and the Building.
Definitively, it was time to put on my boots and gloves. For it was on! I told her that thereafter, my entire was in her hands. I would tell my wife, children, siblings, progressive mankind and the world to hold responsible anything happens to me.
Between the 8th and the 17th of February, it was all hell for me.
The Government of Liberia was serious in terms of its involvement. The Assistant Superintendent immediately took off for Monrovia to meet with President Sirleaf to strengthen their case against me.
Suddenly, on February 1, 2016, I got to work; to my utmost surprise, I met a Yale lock to my office door – Felonious Restraint.
I asked who locked my door, no one could take responsibility as if it were like a terrorist attack with no one claiming it.
I left the premises and called my boss, Mary T. Broh, director general, GSA, to ascertain whether or not she authorized the lock to my office. When I posed the question, Mary Broh blew off the handle as if I were not to ask such a question. She kept me on the line until she convened an impromptu meeting with her deputy director general for administration, Mr. Bangalu and deputy director for operations, Borkai Sirleaf. Mary and I were ablaze. I was fighting for my life. And I wanted her to know.
Mary is a friend of President Sirleaf. And she is my friend. But I know she won’t take my side even if I were right. She'll take the side of the President! Common sense tells me so!
However, I openly accused GSA for conniving, manipulating and for conspiracy.
GSA has become the ground from where I am being attacked. Why? Because, I am a pro bono worker at GSA. And when you are accused of “undermining” a Government in Liberia, “badmouthing” V. P. Boakai, and supporting a possible candidate against the Government’s candidate, GSA is the first place the Government will show its power against me.
Now, GSA has developed a new problem: worrying over my serving pro bono.
It started asking for reasons why I would prefer to work free of charge for the Government. I tell it that I have always done so since my arrival in Liberia. I worked pro bono in all the cases that I advocated in the country. And I won them all. But no compensation was giving for my work except the blessing of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
GSA currently refuses to comprehend my contribution to my country and people. And so, it starts to make my life a living hell.
It has begun to wonder how to fire me working free-of-charge and never guilty of any crime.
Fortunately for GSA the time has come: Now I am falsely accused of “undermining” the Liberian government, “badmouthing” V. P. Boakai and being a member of an opposition political party supporting Mr. Alex B. Cummings. It can now play its cards freely!
On Tuesday, February 23, 2016, an anonymous man visited with me at my private residence to tell me that the Assistant Superintendent had received the support of President Sirleaf to have me removed from pro bono service at GSA. He told me that the Assistant Superintendent was in a meeting with Mary T. Broh, director general, GSA, Messrs. Cole Bangalu, deputy director for administration, GSA and Boarkai Sirleaf, deputy director general for operations, GSA. In that meeting I am told, GSA Management team was instructed by President Sirleaf to have me removed from my post. The GSA management team was forced to agree. As such, a letter of removal from pro bono service from GSA is expected to reach me anytime soon.
It doesn’t stop there; my life is still in danger.
The Assistant Superintendent told me not too long ago that he is “planted” in Maryland to uproot people like me by President Sirleaf. And so, anything he says and wants, President Sirleaf always approves. Currently, he’s asking that I be removed from pro bono service in Government. From all indications, it has met the approval of President Sirleaf.
Notice, I am not worried about losing my pro bono service. But I am worried over the misunderstanding that is been created between President Sirleaf and V. P. Boakai and I. These two individuals are the two most powerful people in Liberia. And when they say, “Let there be rain!” it surely will rain; if you know what I mean.
In the Mary Broh case, she’s a good friend of mine. But she is the best friend of the President of the Republic of Liberia. This is beyond her control. She chooses President Sirleaf and the political establishment, not me.
May God bless this country our Fathers left us!
