Two Associate Justices of The Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia

Liberia’s final arbiter of justice, the Supreme Court, forwards its Judiciary Commission of Inquiry to Maryland County (Liberia) on March 20, 2013. Currently The Commission is on the gorund in Harper City.
The sole purpose of The Commission is to conclude investigation in the Thomas G. Bedell case of police brutality.
I filed my case in August 2012 with the former Chief Justice of Liberia, His Honor Johnny Lewis. After His Honor Johnny Lewis retired, my case was forwarded to His Honor, Acting Chief Justice of Liberia, Cllr. Francis S. Korkpor, Snr.
As soon as Cllr. Korkpor took over my case, something historic happened.
While I was in his office establishing my case, a phone call came in. It was from Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She appointed Cllr. Korkpor Acting Chief Justice in my presence.
I am proud to submit that I was able to share that piece of history. For it has never happened to me before nor do I remember anyone telling me such personal experience.
As a result of the new appointment, His Honor Acting Chief Justice Korkpor, Snr. passed my case over to Associate Justice Her Honor Cllr. Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie.
The two Justices of the Commission on the trip to Harper include Associate Justice Cllr. Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie and Associate Justice Cllr. Phillip Z. Banks.
Initially, the investigation was set for The Magisterial Court of Pleebo in Pleebo City at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 21, 2013. But it was moved to Harper, the capital city of Maryland.
On Thursday, March 21 instant, The Hearing was conducted.
This sort of Judicial prominence and exercise has never taken place before in recorded history in Maryland. It is new to all Marylanders.
People who went to witness the Hearing were not allowed in the Court Room besides the witnesses that were summoned by the Commission.
Police guarded the entire perimeter.
I filed my Complaint against Magistrate Wesley Korkor and Associate Magistrate A Boyee Nma of The Pleebo City Magisterial Court for ordering the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) of The Liberian National Police to mercilessly flog me on a “Contempt Charge.”
Due to the severity of the flogging, I was airlifted to Monrovia by UNMIL helicopter for further medical treatment at the J. F. K. Memorial Hospital in Monrovia where I spent three days. Prior to being airlifted to Monrovia, I was admitted at the J. J. Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City for medical treatment four days.
My case of police brutality has two phases: the Complaint against the Magistrates now being handled by The Judiciary Commission of Inquiry of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia and that of the police’s own action to be investigated by the Independent Human Rights Commission or through litigation in competent court of jurisdiction.
According to Associate Justice Her Honor Cllr. Jamesetta Howard Wolokollie in an interview in Harper City, Rulings expected in the Case next month (April).
Magistrate Korkor was nowhere to be found. From all indications, he left the county for an unknown destination.
I am Thomas G. Bedell, a social justice advocate, volunteer working and speaking on the ground in Liberia and has become a police brutality victim

My Conversation with Eric Giko in Liberia (Part I)

Mr. Eric Giko recently visited Liberia and I had a conversation with him on burning issues affecting Maryland of Liberia.

The Conversation comes into two parts; here’s how the first part evolved:

Mr. Giko is a Marylander residing in the US. He was once an acting president of The National Maryland County Association of Liberia (USA). It indicates he's is a staunch member of the Maryland County community in the United States.

I have not personally known Mr. Giko during our day in Liberia and for the time both of us lived in the US. I have never interfaced with him at any time in the US and in Liberia during our formative days. One thing is, I have heard of Mr. Giko as a community oriented person in the US when it comes to Maryland County of Liberia. But have not seen him in person.

The very first time I interfaced with Mr. Giko was in 2011. By then I had been in Liberia from the US for four consecutive years. This first meeting was in Pleebo City. Pleebo is Mr. Giko's hometown. As for me, my hometown is Harper City. From my hometown to his is less than one hour motor vehicle driving time.

When I met with him, he was in a campaign mode; running for the office of Representative for Pleebo/Sodokeh District against the then incumbent Hon. Dr. Bhofal Chambers. Mr. Giko didn't win. Dr. Chambers was re-elected. Currently, Dr. Chambers is the representative of the Pleebo/Sodokeh district.

During the campaign, Mr. Giko and I didn't have much time to talk. He was on roller skates. I mean he was busy! And so we had little time introducing each other. But at least, we able to see each other face-to-face for the first time. And to me, that was progress thus far!

Later on, I met Mr. Giko in Monrovia. I'm not sure whether it was during or after the same Election in which he aspired for the Representative post in Pleebo/Sodokeh District. But for sure, we met for the second time. This time we met at King Burger Restaurant on Broad Street. Again, the conversation between us was brief. I don't remember why, but it lasted for less than five minutes. So we did not get to knowing each other better. But at least, by then, I was able to have an opportunity to evaluate the young man from his speech.

Recently,Mr. Giko arrived in Liberia on another visit. This time he wanted to see me. Why? Well, he told me that he wanted to compare notes with me. Whatever that meant.

According to Mr. Giko, he tried to reach me via my cell phone but up to no avail. Probably because I was too busy running on my daily work schedule or that the network was bad that time. When he informed me how hard he tried to reach me, I believed him. But I couldn't understand why.

Maybe there was a problem with my phone or his or the network. I checked my "missed" call record on my cell. For some unknown reasons, I did not discover his "missed" calls. Technologically speaking, I should have discovered the “missed’ calls. And that's because technology has made it easy for us today in the world to track down information. But like they always say in Liberia, "This too, is Liberia."

The situation in Liberia is always different. Why? Please don't ask me. I know for sure, the system is always off-and-on. And I think that's why I missed Mr. Giko's calls. All in all, we were able to reconnect when he called back. From there on, things began to fall in place.

On March 13, two days prior to my birthday (March 15) Mr. Giko came to see me at my residence deep in the belly of the earth; in the environs of Monrovia. Somewhere deep in Barnersville is where I reside currently. When we met, he was in a hurry again.

Is it me or something just not right that each time we meet Mr. Giko is always in a hurry? I wonder. But all the same, we talked for less than five minutes. The time was short but significant: he let out his gut feeling on my work in Liberia. I too responded to the wrong views about me harbored by a handful of Marylanders in the US.

Here are some of his concerns:

Mr. Giko expressed his concerns on my "Who's Who" in Maryland post. I issued this post in late February, 2013 in my BEDELL SPEAKS & WORKS blog. He was wondering why I did not mention other people (Marylanders) in my post. In his opinion, he believed I left out people who have done a lot in Maryland and for Maryland but residing in the US. For example, he named a few persons that I will not name herein and included himself.

At another point, Mr. Giko also wondered what sort of criterion did I use to figure out Who's Who in Maryland. In other words, how did I derive a those names I posted.

He kept talking and I was just listening.

He went to further to state how could my claims of social justice advocacy be "verified." Immediately I twisted in my chair. That means he tormented right there by questioning my revolutionary integrity. I wanted to jump in. But no! I did not. I wanted him to finish. Because he was in a hurry to leave the meeting as he was prepping to leave for the US the next day.

When he concluded, my turn came to put forward my defense, if you may call it that way.

The Attorney General of Liberia, Christiana Tarr is a MURDERER!

On January 28, 2013, the Liberia Bar Association (LBA) including the Acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, a man whom we consider a man of DIGNITY and sound JUDGMENT, will be in Harper City, Maryland County on one of their many conferences.
Unfortunately, as a lawyer and a member of the LBA, Christiana Tarr, attorney general of Liberia, who is the Minister of Justice, is also expected to attend.
BUT considering the active role of the Attorney General in EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS, ARBITRARY ARRESTS, ARBITRARY DETENTION, POLICE BRUTALITY, RAPE and ROBBERY against Marylanders at the hands of her notorious Emergency Response Unit of the Police Department (the murder machine and Gestapo of the Liberian Government), we have no other choice but to HEREBY CONDEMN her visit to Maryland with all the EMPHASIS we can COMMAND from the roofs of our tongues!!
Attorney General Tarr continues to commit EXTRAJUDICIAL KILLINGS, GENOCIDE, FORCE DISSAPPEARANCE, RAPE and ATROCITIY spilling the blood of innocent, armless and defenseless civilians, students, young girls, farmers, workers and youths in Maryland County!
She is not welcome to Maryland!! As long as she continues to spill the blood of innocent, armless, defenseless and harmless youths, elderly, girls, women, men, workers and political activists of Maryland and the blood continues to drip from her wicked hands, she's NEVER welcome to Cape.
Our Fathers and Mothers with their Holy Faiths, suffered in our behalf as their children to build for us a place we can call Cape Palmas - our Home! And it's ours! Those who murder, rape and brutalize us are not welcome!
The Attorney General is nothing less than a MURDERER in this strict sense!
We will bend our knees and cry to the Merciful God of our people; God of Abraham, God David, God of Isaac, to bring His vengeance upon her and the murderers operating in the police department flogging, brutalizing, killing youths, elderly, women, men, children, workers, farmers, social justice advocates and raping young girls in Maryland!
Woe on to her for the God of our people whose children she murdered and brutalized will never forgive her!!
I am T. Gbuo-Mle Bedell a volunteer speaking and working on the ground in Liberia and a victim of police brutality. This is my WORD! I am willing and ready to face the bullets once more at my BREAST until JUSTICE reigns SUPREME across the land!
The Glebo People Say, "A TE AH KPLAY BAY NOH!" We are still swift!

Minister of Justice/Attorney General of Liberia

Recent years have seen an extraordinary number of political activists, human rights defenders and students and workers being brutalized by the Liberia National Police followed by extrajudicial killings in Maryland County, Republic of Liberia. Reports clearly show two young men have been killed and several others beaten into coma and humiliated for political reasons since 2011. These figures and the current situation in Maryland are entirely unacceptable and require urgent intervention by the Government of the Republic of Liberia if the killings and police brutality are to stop.
The unabated killings and brutality against defenseless and armless citizens and residents in Maryland have revealed a completely inadequate response by the Government to prevent further deaths and to remedy this worsening situation. The police’s responsibility in investigating these cases has fallen completely short of what is required resulting in the perpetrators, in most cases, having yet to be prosecuted in a court of law. This lack of an effective police investigation into the killings and police brutality and violence against activists and the Government seeming unwillingness to properly intervene are the greatest obstacles in prosecuting the perpetrators and bringing an end to these deaths police brutality.
It appears that in Maryland no system exists to properly ensure that perpetrators of police brutality and extrajudicial killings may be brought to justice for their actions. One of the basic elements of investigation, the gathering of evidence, appears to be non-existent in Maryland right now. In most cases involving the killings and police brutality of activists, this inability to properly gather evidence has meant that the perpetrators have not even been identified or persons who were present are so far afraid that they are unwilling to be witnesses. Owing to this, many of the cases have not even made it to a court of law and if they made it to a court of law, it was suppressed.
The failure to implement an effective investigation and a functioning witness protection mechanism appear to be major obstacles in bringing justice to cases of extrajudicial killings and police brutality.
The Government’s failure to take adequate action in response to these recommendations and to the police brutality and killings themselves, are clearly depriving Marylanders of their right to life. Such action has terrorized and silenced the people, particularly Marylanders, which is entirely unacceptable. It has also denied Marylanders of an environment where the basic rule of law exists.
To prevent further police brutality and extrajudicial killings of activists, students, women, workers and to avert a new social crisis in the county, the government must take immediate action regarding these matters. First, and most, obviously, full investigations and judicial inquiries must follow without delay, with a view to holding the perpetrators fully accountable for their crimes and making clear that this pattern of killings and police brutality will not be allowed to continue. Secondly, The Independent National Human Rights Commission of Liberia (INHCR) must play an active role by coordinating its work with the National Bureau of Investigation, rather than waiting for the other agencies to take the initiative, and by considering recommendations to indemnify the families of the dead. Thirdly, the Government of Liberia must condemn and demand the retraction of statements by the Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice in defense of brutality committed by its officers.

Until there's a judicial review on these cases, the perpetrators (police) will remain free and the killings, rape, highway robberies and brutality will undoubtedly continue. The government of Liberia must take action if this situation is to be averted or the people of Maryland will organized themselves in self defense which is a right not a privilege.
The Attorney General or say Minister of Injustice of Liberia should be amongst the first to take the necessary action. But, no! she's encouraging murder and police brutality in Maryland

Chris Massaquoi (Liberia’s Police Chief) is a Terrorist!

In 2010, Garto Doe was shot in Pleebo City, Maryland County at point-blank range by the notorious Emergency Respond Unit commonly known as “ERU” – the murder machine of The Liberia National Police.

In 2012, the same ERU beat Harrison Geeply into bloodbath and locked him up at the Maximum Prison Compound in Harper City, Maryland County. Geeply, a teenager, slowly bled to death. They called in his poor father, Mr. Nyanti Geeply, to remove his son’s corpse. Mr. Geeply refused on ground the Liberian government murdered his son. So they are under obligation to bury him. Currently, Mr. Geeply had a stroke and no more himself. Two loses: his son was murdered by the Police and now he is a stroke victim and can do nothing for himself anymore.

These two murders have not been investigated. NO JUDICIAL REVIEW! All of these deaths occurred on Chris Massaquoi’s watch and orders.

This is all extrajudicial killings without judicial review.

Anytime any one interferes with the maximum growth potential of a people, that person is guilty of violence. Christ Massaquoi is guilty of murder and violence against innocent and armless civilians in Liberia.

In the same 2011, Wakla Neufville, a teenager was beating into bloodbath for verbally insulting a girlfriend of a member of the ERU. And this happened in Harper City. Right in Middlesex. The girlfriend of the ERU called on her ERU boyfriend for help in a verbal exchange. Prior to the ERU boyfriend coming to the scene, he called on some of his ERU colleagues; together they got in the area of the verbal exchange and physically brutalized Wakla Neufville, Jnr. into a bloody coma. People watched the police brutality. But no one could help the armless kid being brutalized by police. The police threatened that anyone who made any attempt to help the kid would be shot to death. And they were well-armed with AK-47s and pistols. So everybody just watched.

After brutalizing little Wakla, they dragged and dumped him in a police pickup truck. The police dashed the kid, like a beast, in front of the police Headquarters on Gregory Street and drove away. An old lady passing by raised alarm. And the kid was rushed to the J. J. Dossen Hospital where he remained for treatment for more than one week. When he recovered, a complaint was filed to the then Superintendent J. Gble-Bo Brown. Up to the moment we opine, nothing has been done for or on the kid’s complaint. Indications are, at certain age as he grows from teenage to adulthood, he will surely develop serious medical problems. By then, to whom will he run? President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf will no more be in power. Chris Massaquoi might escape the country for fear of retaliation from the common people for terrorizing them. Who will help the poor kid in adulthood going through all the complications?

In 2012, yours truly, was severely beaten by the well-armed ERU in Pleebo City into a bloodbath. I was armless and defenseless. I was physically and psychologically tortured. I was financially robbed. They dumped me in a police pickup truck like a beast. They tear gas me. They threw me in jail for no apparent reason for 24 hours. I bled in jail and suffered from the tear gas aftermath. As a consequential result of the flogging, I spent four days at the J. J. Dossen Hospital in Harper City for medical treatment, Because of the severity of the medical problems deriving from the flogging, I was airlifted by The UNMIL helicopter to Monrovia for a referral at the J. K. Memorial Hospital for further medical treatment. A complaint was filed. But up to the moment we opine, the police department, Ministry of Justice and the Liberian government launched a campaign of silence.

ERU is the murder machine of the Liberia National Police (LNP) run by Christopher Massaquoi who was accused of murdering one of his body guards. From what we know, Chris Massaquoi ordered his body to shoot and kill and innocent and armless citizen. When the body guard refused Christ’s orders, he in return was ordered shot by another body guard of Chris Massaquoi. This is unconfirmed. But a Legislator raised the issue and Christ threatened to litigate.

Hanging around Chris Massaquoi’s neck are so many deaths of many innocent, defenseless and armless civilians in Liberia, particularly, Maryland County.

While I was on the radio speaking on Chris Massaquoi’s terrorist acts, citizens and residents of Monrovia and part adjacent called in reporting their stories. Some of them are now locked in their beds because they have been crippled, limb broken off and in serious medical pain due to police brutality.

They say, when you hear one thing, you dismiss it;

When you hear it the second time, you dismiss it again;

When you hear the same thing the third time, it should draw your attention;

When you hear the same news the fourth time, you need to act. And there’s where it’s all at!

Too many deaths by the police death squad continue to hang around Christ Massaquoi’s neck.

Not one time;

Not two times;

Not three times. But four times.

Someone needs to send this man to The Hague for justice. If Taylor can go to The Hague, so is any big tycoon like Chris Massaquoi. He’s not an exemption?

We are calling on The Human Rights Watch of US to save the lives  of the rest of us who have not met the bullets and secret killing yet!

Chris MUST account the extrajudicial killings and police brutality, starting with Maryland County!

Being a good friend of President Sirleaf is no excuse for Chris Massaquoi to terrorize murder and incarcerate innocent and armless civilians.

All of the extrajudicial murders in Liberia, particularly in Maryland County, are done on the orders and on the watch of Police Director Chris Massaquoi of the Republic of Liberia.

Is Christ Massaquoi trying to be the next Hitler police director in Liberia or the police director of Augusto Pinochet of Chile?

Whatever the answer is, we know for sure Chris Massaquoi is a TERRORIST! He MUST be TRIED in a competent court of jurisdiction! Or else, we will practice SELF-DEFENSE!

It is a RIGHT not a PREVILLGE!

Chris enjoys the favor of President Sirleaf for obvious reasons. But come the Judgment Day of history, he surely will have to account for his deeds and actions in this Government for his terrorist activities.

Posterity will be there!

We will tip our hats at the graves of those of our dear departed youths, elderly, men and women who were murdered by Chris Massaquoi and his Liberian Gestapo police, as we go by the cemetery. And we will continue to cry out for justice and freedom to Christendom and Islam and peace-loving peoples, the world over, to bring these terrorists like Christ Massaquoi and Christiana Tah to Justice one day!

A terrorist is a person who terrorizes or frightens others. Chris Massaquoi is a hardcore TERRORIST! He terrorizes, kills, flogs, incarcerates and frightens armless, defenseless and innocent citizens and others.

When will Christ Massaquoi be brought to justice?!

We don’t know for now! He has access to power right now! He’s a good friend of President Sirleaf!

But we leave the answer to Father Time! It will tell!

Confidently, we know such a day will come!

And not in the too distant future!

Too many deaths by the police death squad continue to hang around Christ Massaquoi’s neck.

Not one time;

Not two times;
